Finding Jackfish

It was summer 2009 when we found kayaking selves wind bound on the beach at Jackfish Bay on Lake Superior.  As we walked around the old Jackfish Village, abandoned since the 1950's, we found many treasures including building foundations, beach glass and the odd black fly.  Later on our hike we took a moment to sit on the deck of a cabin and have a look out over the lake to St. Patrick's island.  Low and behold the cabin was for sale - and a couple of months later it was ours.

Samantha and the Sioux Lookout kayaking gals - Carol, Annette, Monique and Judy.  On our wind bound day that brought us and the cabin together.
Jackfish in its heyday (early 1900's) when the coal docks kept the trains powering through northwestern Ontario.
The cabin with a fabulous view of the Slate Islands on a very cold wintery day.

  1. I spent many a pieceful summer at that 'cabin'. My grandparents built it many many years ago. How lovely to see this picture.
