In April 2010 we lost the cabin to a 16 hectare forest fire. We were devastated but quickly recovered and started to dream of the time we would rebuild. We were lucky that the picnic table and fire pit along with its bench remained. We figured we now had a perfect camping site. The only thing missing was washroom facilities. So we packed up our camping gear and all that we needed to build a new outhouse and spent the weekends of July 2010 out on the rock at Jackfish. The outhouse was complete (including shiny pink roofing paint) and the pee/poo separator installed (swanky!).
This is the view 2 days after the fire burned through the old Jackfish village, taking with it our cabin and the one beside it. That day many of the old remnants of the village were lost, the old fishing shacks and our beloved Dahl House.
The new outhouse in its lipstick coloured glory. We used the only thing which survived the fire, which was the galvanized steel used for the roof.
